WebBridge and All Music Guide

On our staging server http://www.infosoup.org:2082/ I have added a WebBridge link to All Music Guide for any music search. This is similar to the link we have for Internet Movie Database for movie searches or Amazon for book searches. It does not mean that there will be an actual record. The link will search All Music Guide for the author in the catalog record. In general the link will take you to an Index page as in this example http://www.infosoup.org:2082/record=b1527614. For comparison, I have All Music Guide open in a new window, unlike IMDB which opens in a frame. There are pros and cons to both. If you have a strong preference, let me know.

In staging I have also added links on movie searches to Move Review Query Engine and Rotten Tomatoes. I can only get the RT link to take one to an index page rather than directly to the main page for the search titled. Try any movie title search in staging and you should see the links. If you have thoughts on adding or not adding these or similar type of review sites, let us know.

Dominic:

by opening the info in a new windows it makes it difficult to get back to the original Infosoup page on catalog machines that don't show the toolbar. I like the frames better for this reason- but I feel a tabbed browsing option would be best.

Beth:

I agree with Dominic on the new window - I think it's problematic for the catalog machines. While the framing has its own issues, too, I think it's the better option right now. I think AllMusicGuide would be a good addition to WebBridge for music.

I wasn't as impressed with the other movie sites added as I am with IMDb, but had a thought. On the readers pages, we have lots of other sources included, but don't include them in WebBridge. What if we treated the movie and music info the same? Have one (or maybe two) really strong sites in WebBridge, but add additional sites on a more developed page for people who really love that format. We've talked about doing this for quite a while and have had trouble getting to it. Guess I'm just saying I like the model we have already established with the other pages.

Holly:

I really like the MRQE option in WebBridge because all the reviews are collocated in one place similar to how Evan has established the categories for reviews from Ebsco and from Syndetics for books.

Evan:

For now I will stay with the frame for webbridge entries. We looked at tabbed browsing and liked how it looked, but we were concerned about adding another link to display information. Also, from what I can see so far (which usually isn't very far) WebBridge results are not available as one of the tabs in innovative tabbed browsing. That is something I can keep an eye on. As far as adding or not adding MRQE and All Music Guide I will wait and see if there are further comments.
