PIN retrieval

Several people have asked about the PIN retrieval feature that was supposed to come with the last upgrade to Millennium. I spent time trying to configure it in staging (http://www.infosoup.org:2082) - it's still up, if you'd like to see it, just go to the My Account page - but there are some problems with III's implementation of this feature so I haven't moved it over to the live version of InfoSoup. We have a call in to Innovative to see if they can resolve the issues I found, but I haven't heard anything back from them.

We know this feature would be incredibly helpful to all of you and to your patrons, so we will pursue making this work as soon as Innovative can resolve the issues we reported.

Thanks for your patience!
Beth

That will be SO COOL!!

We thought the enhancements would be more or less spontaneous. Our staff has been waiting to experience the great new changes. Aside from some cataloging changes, which only a few of the staff use, things like Pin retrieval are really cool only when they work. But maybe I've missed something (which wouldn't be the first time!)about the upgrade. Could you give the link to the enhancements again and the status of where OWLS is at with being able to implement them?

Hi Maggie,

Some enhancements are spontaneous and don't require any set-up on our part, while others require a fair amount of work and tweaking to make them fit InfoSoup's unique design. My only advice is to take a list of enhancements as possibilities, as we never know what we're going to encounter when we try to implement them and sometimes we can't apply them because they need more work by Innovative.

The only enhancements I was working on for InfoSoup were PIN retrieval (faulty, waiting for a response/fix from Innovative) and My Lists (poor implementation, can't make live until Innovative releases a better version). Perhaps Gerri will respond with the status of other enhancements if relevant.

Thanks,
Beth

I thought I'd jump in here too. This is our second upgrade with Innovative and I feel like we're still learning the process. There's a fine line between promoting the new features, and promising that they'll work just fine for us. We try very hard to let you know what's going to happen right away, and what we intend to work on right away, but until we actually see the software, we can't know exactly how any changes are going to implemented. I'm personally disappointed with both the "retrieve my pin" functionality, and the "my lists" functionality. My personal expectation was that these were going to work for us, and would be implemented shortly after the upgrade. While the timeline has not gone as planned, we're still hoping that these will be updates we can use in the future.

I don't have a list of where we are at in all of the various items, but I expect we'll be talking about it at the next AAC meeting.

In the mean time, could there be wording added like "Retrieve My Pin" or "Forgot Your Pin?" and state - call your local library and they will reset your pin?

Becca,
Yes it would be possible to do what you suggest. I did a sample of what it might look like in staging (see link in post above) on the My Account page. If we did this in the live version of the catalog, the "forgot your pin" part wouldn't be a link - I had to leave that in there for III to use for testing our original problem in staging. What do you think everyone? Worth doing?
