At the last AAC meeting, we held a vote to discontinue billing other libraries for items checked out at their libraries, but not returned after one year. That vote has failed. 83% of the members voted yes, and 62% of the fee shares voted yes, but the vote requires 2/3 of the members and 2/3 of the fee shares to pass. One library did not respond, but that would not have affected the vote.
A Harry Potter bookmark is now available. Feel free to print these out for your patrons to encourage them to read quickly!
It turns out that we are on track to having a really nice number of copies of HP and the DH. Some libraries didn't order their copies early, or may not receive their shipments on time, but we expect next week to have plenty of copies.
On a side note, not all libraries coded their copies of HP as short loan, and some coded the books as children's, others as YA, and others yet as adult. I changed all of the Itypes to 111 for YA short loan. Please make sure short loan stickers are on your copies.
Thanks!

This morning, there was a glitch, and a library cleared the holdshelf for the entire system. This shouldn't be possible, as originally the system was configured to prevent this. But now I see that something has changed, and individual library logins have the option of clearing ALL instead of just their individual location.
This means that when you clear your holdshelf, there will likely be nothing on it, since it's already been done. I'll be sending your list of cleared items to you as soon as possible. This will take some time, but I hope to have it done yet this morning. Once that's finished, I'll be contacting Innovative to remove the ALL location from the clear the holdshelf mode.
If you have questions, please give me a call.

The following decisions were made at the Friday AAC meeting:
1. The OWLSnet plan developed by the OWLSnet Planning Committee was approved.
2. Nonfiction and fiction videos will now circulate for 1 week with 2 renewals at all OWLSnet libraries. Previously, most videos circulated for 1 week with 1 renewal, and some libraries circulated nonfiction videos for 4 weeks. The 4 week nonfiction video option has been eliminated. The loan rules have already been changed, and the change will take effect tomorrow morning. This will only affect new items checked out, items previously checked out will not be affected.
3. We agreed to restrict the Employee Ptype to active employees. Each library will receive a list of all their patrons with an employee Ptype to make sure that only active employees are included.
4. We agreed that it would be a good idea for OWLS to clear the holdshelf once a week on Wednesdays at 4 PM. If any items show up to be cleared, we'll contact that library directly.
Have a good weekend!
Due to popular request, we've added a new page, linked from the Notices page called Notice Schedule.
If you have any questions or requests for additions to this page, please let me know!
Is your library planning to implement acquisitions in 2008? If so, you're invited to attend a full-day Acquisitions Camp at the Appleton Public Library, on Tuesday, August 28th. We'll start with the basics of designing your system and end up with some hands-on time in the afternoon.
Limited space is available and reservations are required. If you'd like to attend, please contact me as soon as possible.

Item Use 3 in the Circulation client, used for discarding items, has been renamed. The new name is Discard Item. It works exactly the same, it's just a new (and more accurate) name.
