Innovative has been unable to fix our bounced emails, so I have made a
change that should fix the problem. Starting tomorrow, your library
will again receive bounced emails. However, the emails may look
different.
It's possible, depending on how your email client is configured, that the original text of the notice may come through as an attachment, rather than in the body of the email. If you have problems opening the attachment, or simply cannot find the information you need to edit the patron's record, please call or email me. Please do not forward the email on to me, but leave it in your email account.
Additionally, you may find that you receive more bounced emails than before. Previously, Charles was able to remove the type of bounced emails that were merely a notification that the email system had been trying to contact someone. Now, I expect that you will start receiving these.
The advantage to this new system is that it does not involve using a separate script. If it works for everyone, I would suggest that we continue using it. However, if you have problems with the bounced emails, or feel strongly that you'd preferred our previous method, please let me know.

If your patron doesn't receive an email after attempting to reset their PIN, it's likely that there is a problem with their email account. It could be typed wrong, an invalid account, or there could be a temporary problem with their email provider.
If your patron calls because they didn't receive an email, make sure you confirm their email address. Feel free to re-set their pin for them when you're on the phone with them.

The "Forgot Your PIN?" feature has officially been added to InfoSoup. Patrons can now reset their own PINs if they have an email address associated with their patron account. View the screencast for a quick demo of how it all works or try it for yourself on the My Account page in InfoSoup.
The latest upgrade to the Millennium system has prevented us from accessing the bounced emails. Your library will not be receiving forwarded bounced emails until this is fixed. We are working with Innovative on this, and will post an update when new information is available.
UPDATE 4:50 PM: While Innovative has not fixed this problem yet, we may have another solution. Appleton Public is helping us test a solution that would allow the messages to be bounced directly to the receiving email account. (Currently, we use a script to forward these messages.) We'll be talking with them tomorrow to see if there are any problems with this proposed solution.

In addition to the upgrade that is being installed Monday night, two more patches are being installed on our Innovative system this week. On Wednesday morning, a patch will be installed to fix the problem with the Web Management call number reports. (Currently, the reports don't list the call number range, just an index number referencing the call number range.) On Thursday morning, a patch will be installed to fix the problem with collection location sorting. (This problem has caused us to be unable to add new location codes, as well as caused some of Algoma's holds to be routed to Shawano. )
Neither of these patches will require new files to be downloaded from the server. There should be no effect on server performance during the installation.

Innovative has recently released a minor update to R2007. Typically these incremental updates include fixes for bugs and very minor enhancements. Because there are a number of small fixes that we are looking for, we've asked Innovative to install this on our system. No downtime will be involved in this update.
Innovative will be installing this on the evening of Monday, October 20th. On Tuesday, October 21, your local PC will need to download new files from the server, so it may take longer to log in. Typically, this increases login time by a few minutes, depending on the time of day you will be logging in.
If have any questions, please let me know. If you have problems logging in on Tuesday, October 21st, please contact the OWLS office.
