InfoSoup is now ready for Blu-Ray

|
InfoSoup is now ready for Blu-Ray, so if you've been holding off buying them, you can now feel free to start adding these to your collection!

Here are a few details:

A Blu-Ray scope has been added to the scope drop-down menu.  Also, the name of the DVD & VHS scope has been changed to DVD & VHS & Blu-ray.  This scope will include Blu-rays, but the DVD scope will not.

The technical services staff has committed to ensuring that each Blu-ray record has a Blu-ray edition statement that will display on the brief record and the full bib record in InfoSoup.  These may need to be added manually, so if you see a Blu-ray record without a Blu-ray edition statement, please send an email to OWLSnetHelp asking for this statement to be added.

Infosoup_BluRayIcon.gifEach Blu-Ray disc now has a bib material type of 4, which allows InfoSoup to display the Blu-ray icon.  Items that are added via the cataloging tool are likely to have this material type (and therefore the Blu-ray icon) automatically displayed.

However, OCLC libraries need to be aware that the situation is different for records that are downloaded directly from OCLC.  (The following libraries use OCLC directly: Clintonville, Kaukauna, Kimberly-Little Chute, Marinette County, New London, Shawano County, Door County, and Waupaca).  Records downloaded directly from OCLC will have a bib material type of g (for DVD) in the bib record until the record is updated.  This means that the icon will be incorrect, and item will also be scoped incorrectly - it will fall into the DVD scope, and not the Blu-ray scope.  To fix this, simply send an email to OWLSnethelp, and technical services staff will update the record.

If you have any questions, you can contact me (Gerri) at the OWLS office, or talk to any of the Technical Services staff at OWLS and Appleton.
