Problems in the Millennium Client

|
We're still dealing with several problems in the Millennium client, most likely related to the upgrade to 2009B.  Innovative is aware of these, and is working on them.  Here are the issues most likely to be affecting your library.  (More details are available in the OWLSnet Manual at http://owlsnetmanual.pbworks.com/New-Releases-and-Upgrades.)

  • Libraries are experiencing periodic freezing when accessing item or bibliographic records.  The update today was installed in an attempt to fix this problem.
  • My Lists has stopped working at least three times since the upgrade.  No data was lost as far as we can tell, but we're not sure why it keeps stopping.
  • Several libraries have reported that there have been times they were unable to access their paging lists in Millennium Notices.  They received an error message of "Failed to retrieve information from the database.
If you experience these problems, or other problems with Millennium or InfoSoup, please contact the OWLS office.

R2009B enhancement: My Lists

|
R2009b includes a number of enhancements to My Lists in InfoSoup.
  • It's now much easier to add an item to a list from the full record.
  • Lists can be renamed
  • Items can be moved from one List to another.
More information is available in the OWLSnet manual at http://owlsnetmanual.pbworks.com/My-Lists.  (Username and password are required to log in.)

Millennium R2009B update complete!

|
At 5:30 PM, Tuesday June 8, the InfoSoup server was upgraded to Millennium R2009B.  The upgrade took about an hour, and almost everything appears to be working well.  (The one exception is High Demand Holds.  Not only was it mysteriously renamed, it also doesn't work.  A call has been placed with Innovative.) Note:  As of June 9, High Demand Holds is working, although it's still named Hold Thresholds.

If you want to know more about this release, a R2009B page has been created in the OWLSnet manual. You can use it to see what enhancements are coming, or might be possible, and to view the status of any problems we've encountered with the new release.

Millennium upgrade to R2009B

|
OWLSnet is planning to upgrade to Millennium R2009B on Tuesday, June 8 at 5:30 PM.

At 5:30, we'll ask everyone to log out of Millennium, and will start the upgrade.  Millennium and InfoSoup will be unavailable during this time.

Once the upgrade is complete, which we expect to take about an hour, we'll send out an announcement, and libraries will be free to log in.  Logging in will take a bit longer than usual, as new files will be downloaded from the server.  OWLS staff will work with libraries who've used offline circulation to process these transactions.

Problem with images in InfoSoup

|
We're experiencing problem with Bookletters images in InfoSoup this morning.  To keep InfoSoup running smoothly, we've temporarily disabled images until Bookletters is able to fix the problem.

InfoSoup/Millennium server replacement complete

|

The InfoSoup/Millennium server replacement is complete. Basic functions have been tested. If your library used offline circ, we will be contacting you about sending over your files. Please do not send over your files until you've been contacted.

If, when you go to www.infosoup.org, your browser continues to point to the alternate page, you may need to restart your browser.

If you experience any other problems, please contact the OWLS office.

The Millennium/InfoSoup server will be replaced tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb 23).  Millennium and InfoSoup will be unavailable for much of the day, beginning around 8:00 AM. We expect the work to be completed by 5:00 PM, but it could be much earlier or later. Attempts to access InfoSoup at this time will be redirected to an alternate page, explaining the maintenance.  If there are delays, we will update this alternate page.

While Millennium and InfoSoup will be unavailable, Internet access, SAM, and email will still be available.  Most OWLSnet databases will be available through Badgerlink.

When the work is completed, and the server has been thoroughly tested, we will send out a NetSupport Notify pop-up message to all OWLSnet staff computers.  If your library will be open tomorrow, we recommend that you keep your computers turned on, so you will be notified when the replacement is complete.

If you have questions, please feel free to call or email the OWLS office.

InfoSoup to Go! (AirPAC)

|
As of this morning, anyone hitting http://www.infosoup.org with a supported Smartphone will be redirected to http://m.infosoup.org, which is the new version of our site for mobile devices.  This is an Innovative product called AirPAC, which we purchased with an LSTA grant.  You can click on the link in any browser, to see what InfoSoup To Go! will look like (but imagine a much smaller screen.)  Even though the Smartphones are redirected, users can still can access the main InfoSoup site by using the "Main Site" link.

Supported Smartphones include the iPhone, the iPod Touch with WiFi, and the Blackberry Storm.  Other Smartphones may also be redirected to this mobile URL, because the browsers on these phones identify themselves in the same way as the supported Smartphones.

Not all Smartphones are supported.  Users with unsupported Smartphones may use the older version of AirPAC at http://www.infosoup.org/airpac.  Again, you can take a look by clicking on the link.

If you have questions, please call, or send me an email.  More information about promoting AirPAC will be forthcoming!

Reading History problem ** resolved

|
With the upgrade to R2009A, we're experiencing problems in Firefox and Internet Explorer.  When attempting to access a patron's reading history, the browser returns a 502 proxy error.  The problem has been reported to Innovative.  Update: Innovative will be installing an update tomorrow morning (Wednesday, July 29th) at 8 AM to fix this problem. We should not experience any problems with the system during the update, and it will not be necessary to download new jar files after the installation is complete.  Update (Wed, July 29th): Reading history is now accessible again.
