Adding Gale InfoMarks To Your Web Site
One of the added benefits of the Gale Group
Databases is that you can provide direct links to specific searches, journal
titles, articles or saved lists of materials right from your web site.
This is a great way to provide online bibliographies of full-text materials
for your patrons. Here's how.
- Go to the Gale
Group Database of your choice and perform your search.
Look
for the InfoMark icon.
An InfoMark
icon like the one to the right will appear on any page that is able to
be saved as a link. You
will be able to save InfoMarks for searches, titles of journals, specific
articles or marked lists.
- Copy the resulting
URL.
In the results
window of a page displaying the InfoMark icon, simply highlight
and copy (CONTROL + C) the URL that displays in the Location or
Address box of your browser. The URL will be quite long and is
not easily hand-typed as a link.
- Add the link to
your web page.
In your web page editor (Dreamweaver for most of us), type the text
you want users to click on to access your InfoMark page - highlight
the text, drop your cursor in the LINK box of the Properties window
and paste (CONTROL + V) the copied URL.
NOTE: If you copied a URL from
the General Reference Center (GRC), you will need to remove the
first portion of the link that displays a web session. InfoMarks
in GRC will begin like this:
http://web4.infotrac.galegroup.com/itw/infomark/.........(the
link is LONG, ignore these dots)
After pasting the copied URL, you would simply need to remove the web4. from
the link, so it would look like this:
http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itw/infomark/.......(the link is LONG, ignore
these dots)
- Save your page and
test the links.
